Obligatory Hockey Post

This isn't working the way it was supposed to. How Carolina got past the league's best goalie is a mystery to me. And where did Grapes' beloved San Jose team disappear to? I acknowledge I've been generous in spirit toward Randy Carlyle's Anaheim Ducks, but that was then and this is now. I don't enjoy Anaheim's style of play: it's ponderous and heavy with elbows, and for once in my life I'm hoping Detroit makes short work of them.

Philly's out.
Jersey's out.
I may, may root for the Pens, but Crosby is an irritation.
I love Ovechkin. His attitude, his skill, his physical play...but 7 games to get rid of the Rangers? I don't think Washington has it as a team to make it past the next round.
And the Ducks? I'm in complete agreement with you. Tugs on skates.

I think the Rangers surprised themselves, while Washington took the sort of long-view approach that scuttled the Sharks. Here's hoping the Caps dig deep in a hurry.

I'll be the voice of dissent then as I enjoy a rough game. (provided everyone remains ambulatory) It's the thing I have missed most with the new rules. Red Wings and Ducks both have significant buy-in to their systems so this series is kind of like the new Swedish hockey versus the old Canadian hockey. You have to favour the Swedes in that case. I just don't see how you would hope to translate old hockey to the new rules.

I'm not opposed to rough games -- just games that get slowed down by chippiness. Carlyle loves the trap and he loves the boards, and a hockey fan is lucky if an Anaheim game reaches three goals.
