Taking a short pause for technical matters

With a little luck (and techno-perseverance) I'll be back to full blogging capacity in the next week. I'll be jury-rigging a computer salvaged from a dumpster (thanks, Tom!). The BIOS seems to have been compromised, but I should be able to run LINUX on it. Should - we shall see.

I guess we should have checked it over a little back at my place... Did you try pulling either of the sticks of RAM to see if that helped?

This is the second dumpster dive pc in the past year, right? Just treying to keep score here.

DV: Nope - this is the original dumpster PC. I picked it up from Mr. "Did you jiggle the RAM?" Tom just the other week.

Tom - didn't jiggle the RAM, but I'll give it a try. I'm curious to see how well LINUX works for me, though. I'm havin' fun.

Yeah, I tried Linux and even Solaris Unix back a while... but it turns out I play games on my PC, so a M$ Windows user I'll be.

You mentioned the BIOS seems to be compromised... I hope its not too serious.

Anyway, don't jiggle the RAM, juggle it! Try with only one of those sticks in, see if its better. Then try the other one.

I've got all next week off... I could drive to TO and help ya with it!

You're more than welcome to the guestroom - provided we can clear out all the tech-junk! Just say the word, Major Tom...

I'd be on the road, heading for your guest-bed, except...

1) got little/no money
2) got lots of things to do 'round the house
3) its a long long drive (as you can attest to) without someone to share it with
4) shoulda planned it better and flown out, instead.

Still... I may just throw caution and everything to the wind and drive out anyhow. I'll call to give you notice should the wanderlust take me in your direction.
